Cumann na mBunscol County Quarter Final

Commiserations to our Girls team who were defeated in their County Mini 7’s Quarter Final against Midfield NS earlier after extra time.

The game ebbed and flowed all through with little to separate the sides. Our girls can be very proud of their performance and the never say die attitude they displayed all through. Each of our panel members gave their all and on another day could easily have come out on top.

Well done and thank you to Midfield for a fantastic and sporting game. We wish them well as they progress to the County Semi Final.

10@10 : Our Active School

We had such fun and activity at St. Attracta’s National School this morning to celebrate National 10@10 day. After two weeks of preparation and practice, Mr. Rushe devised a huge range of exercises and activities to get us all moving and ready for another day at school.

We played basketball, hurdles, quoits, throwing and catching, running and jumping. Super fun was had by every class. Thanks you to Mr. Rushe and our Active School Committee for organising all our fun!

Comhghairdeachas to our young hurlers from 4th Class who yesterday participated in a Cuilí blitz on the Astro Surface in Kilmovee. Alonside us were teams from Carracastle and Kilmovee National Schools.

Our boys had a fantastic but busy morning playing four games.Despite playing Cuilí for the first time they managed to achieve a win and a draw, maith sibh!

Thank you to Ms.Henry who proved to be a very successful coach! We all hope this will be the start of new sport in our school.
Well done boys!

Girls Team Beaten in Cumann na mBunscol Semi Final

IMG_0278

Commiserations to our ‘Girls Team’ who were beaten earlier by Bekan N.S. in their Cumann na mBunscol County Semi Final on a scoreline of 2-8 to 1-7.

Our girls got off to a flying start and led by two points at half time 1-3 to 0-4, this despite hitting the crossbar and unfortunately missing some gilt edged opportunities.

Bekan N.S. came out of the blocks much stronger in the second half scoring two early goals, putting us on the backfoot. Our girls to their immense credit battled heroically (hitting the post twice again) to the end and on another day could have seen the result go in their favour.

We are so proud of each of the girls particularly those from 6th Class who represented their school for the final time. The girls can have no regrets as they gave their all.

Well done to all the girls who have had a fantastic year, its great to see so many playing for their club here in Charlestown. These talented ladies can only go from strength to strength.. Maith sibh go léir!

Comhghairdeachas mór le Jessica Casey (Striker) and Amy Mahon (Goalkeeper) from our Fourth and Sixth Classes who on Sunday last represented the Mayo U-12 Girls Soccer team at a blitz in Inishowen Co.Donegal.

Both girls played starring roles as the ‘Mayo team’ progressed through a difficult group and knockout stages before succumbing to an excellent Dublin team in the final.

The selection of the girls was a wonderful honour and one which their club ‘Charlestown Athletic’ can be very proud of.

Maith sibh a chailiní,well done, all here at St.Attracta’s are also so proud of you!

Mini 7’s Girls Quarter Final

Commiserations to our Girls Mini 7’s team who were narrowly defeated in their County Quarter Final against Midfield NS on a scoreline of 4-3 to 4-0 yesterday afternoon at Swinford Amenity Park.

Our girls gave a fantastic account of themselves in very difficult and testing conditions. They played with great heart and spirit as the game ebbed and flowed and can be very proud of their efforts.Unfortunately, they came up just short as the game concluded.

We were very proud of each of the girls and look forward to preparing for the Cumann na mBunscol competitions later in this school year.

Finally a special word of thanks to Mr.Fahey and Midfield NS for a very enjoyable and sporting game. We wish them every success as they progress towards their Semi Final in the coming week.

FAI Primary Schools Futsal Competition

Well done to the boys and girls of 4th Class who took part in the FAI Primary Schools Futsal Competition in Barnacarroll on Thursday and Friday.

On Thursday the boys were up first against Barnacarroll N.S where they had a clear win with brilliant scores from Dillon Mc Guinness, Mark Lowther and Owen Flannery. However, luck was not on our side for our next two games against Tooreen N.S. and Bekan N.S. The boys however played their very best and showed great sportsmanship. They should be very proud of their efforts.
Yesterday Friday the girls had a more successful day wining two games and drawing two. They were first up against our neighbours Cloonlyon N.S. It was an super win for us with great scores from Jessica Casey and Lylah Callaghan. Our next game was against Bekan N.S who put up an excellent game that could have gone either way at full time. Ballinrobe followed with another good game. We saw fantastic scores from Kate O’Donghue and Lylah Callaghan which kept us in the lead. Our last game was against Barnacarroll N.S which ended with a nil all draw. There was great skill and determination witnessed on both sides. Unfortunately for us we needed that win to go on to the next stage.
Overall it was a wonderful two days of sport. The children really enjoyed themselves, showed great sportsmanship and gave a great display of their soccer skills. Well done to all teams who took part and best of luck to those going forward to the next round.
A special word of thanks to Ms.Henry for looking after both teams. As always Rang a Ceathair did her proud!

Jessica Competes in Connaught Cross Country Finals

Congratulations and well done to Jessica Casey of our Fourth Class who earlier this afternoon competed in the Connaught Cross Country Final’s at the Leitrim Gaels Community Grounds in Leitrim Village.

We are all so proud Jessica’s efforts and achievements throughout this Autumn and very much enjoyed watching her go from strength to strength.

Jessica finished this afternoon in a fantastic 21st place against many talented competitors. She ran a super second half to her race despite having a difficult start on a very narrow track.

Finally well done to all the boys and girls who took part and participated in ‘Cross Country’ this year. All of the students gave their very best, we are very proud of you all. Maith sibh!
