Comhghairdeachas mór to the Boys and Girls from 3rd to 6th Class who earlier today participated in the East Mayo Cross Country Championships held at Swinford Golf Club.
We had participants in all four events: 3rd and 4th Class Girls & Boys followed by 5th & 6th Class Girls & Boys. We were thrilled with how our teams performed, each very competitive having prepared well over the past number of weeks.
A number of students finished very strongly. Síofra McGuinness, Emily Higgins and Clodagh Meehan all secured individual medals alongside one of our performances of the day from Dylan Pilcher who in the Third and Fourth Class Boys competition finished second after a magnificent run. These Athletes now progress to the County Finals in Belleek Ballina on Thursday next September 26th at 11am.
The most pleasing news of the morning came as the results were announced when we learned our two girls teams and our Junior Boys team had qualified from their respective events.
Our Third and Fourth Class Girls were silver medalists in their event with team members Kayleigh Casey, Amy Vesey, Roisín Gately and Laoise Meehan finishing very strongly having been lead home by Síofra and Emily. Our 5th and 6th Class Girls secured a Bronze Medal in their team event to join those who qualified as individuals. Here again we had super performances from the Clodagh as mentioned, Ava Casey,Grace Hunt,Aimee O’Hehir, Candice Mongan, Alisha Walsh, Ruby Mannion and Amy Frizzell. We also secured a Third Team to Ballina through our 3rd and 4th Class Boys, here Darragh Shryhane, Ethan Honeyman, James McCann, Eoin Kelly and Adam Hunt alongside the aforementioned Dylan Pilcher had fantastic runs, each giving their all and ensuring their team progressed to the County Finals. Again this was wonderful news as all the students worked very hard, battling right to the finish line. Many of these students were representing the school for the very first time and can be extremely proud of their efforts.
Well done also to all our Senior boys who despite not qualifying can be so proud of their efforts. All of the boys gave their very best. Maith sibh!
A final word of thanks to all the boys and girls who have given so much in preparation for today. It was amazing to see the children’s progress at all levels and show a great determination and eagerness to represent their school.
Long may it last! Finally a very special word of thanks to all the members of Swinford AC who helped organise todays event, it was a most enjoyable morning.
