Comhghairdeachas mór to the Boys and Girls from 3rd to 6th Class who earlier today participated in the East Mayo Cross Country Championships held at Swinford Golf Club.
We had participants in all four events: 3rd and 4th Class Girls & Boys followed by 5th & 6th Class Girls & Boys. We were thrilled with how our teams performed, each very competitive having prepared well over the past number of weeks.
A number of students finished very strongly. Siofra McGuinness, Amelia McEntire and Alisha Walsh all secured individual medals and ensured our school was to the fore in the Girls team event. In the Senior Girls event Katelyn Walsh, Clodagh Meehan and Mia Durkin all achieved top ten finishes and again individual medals. These Athletes now progress to the County Finals in Beleek Ballina on Thursday next September 27th at 11am.
The most pleasing news of the morning came as the results were announced when we learned our two girls teams had qualified from their respective events winning both team events.
Our Third and Fourth Class Girls were victorious in their event with fellow team members Ruby Mannion, Kayleigh Casey and Roisín Gately finishing very strongly and our 5th and 6th Class Girls secured another Gold Medal in the team event to join those who qualified as individuals. Here again we had super performances from Ava Casey, Megan Higgins Aimee O’Hehir and Sarah Hunt. This was wonderful news as all the students worked very hard, battling right to the finish line to ensure their team had a very high finish. Many of these students were representing the school for the very first time and can be extremely proud of their efforts.
Well done also to all our boys who despite not qualifying can be so proud of their efforts. All of the boys gave their very best. Maith sibh!
A final word of thanks to all the boys and girls who have given their all in preparation for today. It was amazing to see the children’s progress at all levels and show a great determination and eagerness to represent their school.
Long may it last!
