DESCRIPTION:To help launch the East Mayo Special Olympics club\, we will be supporting their Super Hero Day next Friday 13th October. \nOn this day we’re asking all children to dress up as their favourite superhero\, sports star\, book character\, or whomever they think is the best superhero! Or maybe they can be creative and showcase their own hidden super power as not all heroes wear capes. \nYou don’t need to buy a costume but the children can wear one you already have\, or they can wear their own clothes and describe what their superpower is. Some of the suggestions from the children themselves today were SUPERfriend\, SUPERfunny\, SUPERclever\, SUPERorganised\, SUPERreader\, SUPERfast. \nDonations are voluntary and if you would like to donate then we would suggest €2 per child on the day. \nAll monies raised will go towards the work that Special Olympics do to support children with intellectual disability to realise their dreams.

SUMMARY:3rd to 6th Class Community Art Project Exhibition - Maypole Mining Disaster
DESCRIPTION:Students from 3rd – 6th class have recently taken part in a community participation art project. This has been made possible by the support of the Charlestown Community Development group and funding secured by the Mayo County Council Arts Office. \nThis project is to commemorate the 75 lives lost in the 1908 Maypole Mining disaster in Wigan\, UK. A number of those lives lost came from Co. Mayo\, some of which hailed from the Charlestown area. We are very lucky to have been invited to take part in this project and to have worked with and been guided by the very talented and helpful lantern sculpture artist Tom Meskell. \nThe children’s work will be exhibited and open to our school community from 6-8 pm on Tuesday / Wednesday\, November 22nd/23rd. It was a wonderful experience for the children and we are very proud of their hard work and effort. \nThere is an open invitation to all\, to visit the exhibition and admire this wonderful project and the children’s work. We would love to see you there.
