The Western Spikeball Finals took place in the Convent of Mercy Roscommon earlier today. We had an unprecedented three teams representing us in the Boys,Girls and Mixed Competitions having all secured progress from the Mayo Finals held last month.
We are delighted to report that both the Boys and Girls teams have now qualified for the All Ireland Finals which will be held at the University of Limerick on Wednesday March 26th.Both teams reached their respective finals have progressed from very competitive groups and also coming through very tense semi finals.
The Boys team lost to a very strong Abbey NS in a thrilling final 21-16 and the Girls lost out to St.Ita’s Loughrea 25-14. It was a fantastic achievement for both teams to reach their respective finals coming through as was mentioned against very strong opposition. All roads now lead to Limerick at the end of the month and both teams will have to continue to work hard over the next fortnight in preparation.
Our Mixed team also did so well against stiff opposition. Of our three teams this is the team that has made the most progress over the course of our season. Many of the player on this team will be available to us again next year and we really hope this experience will stand to them.
A special word of thanks to the transition year students who helped us over the past number of months. In particular Aoife, Ciara and Jennifer who did so much coaching voluntarily, helping us to prepare. We really are so thankful for their interest and enthusiasm.
Finally a special mention to Geraldine Finn whose expertise, encouragement and effort we as always are most most appreciative of.
We will post photos of the day shortly.
