Active Schools Report

Term 1

We have had a very busy first term here at St. Attracta’s. When we came back in September we elected out new Active School Committee. Each class had to choose 2 children to represent the class on the committee. So now we have a great committee in place.

The Active School Committee is:

Junior Infants:   Ollie Hannigan + Clodagh Wynn

Senior Infants:  Naoise O’ Gara + Liam Muldoon

1st Class:           Jamie Lavin + Eliza Chapman

2nd Class:          Micheál Battle + Lucy Duffy

3rd Class:           Luke McDermott + Lily Frizzell

4th Class:           Dáithí Gethins + Reece Hooper

5th Class:           Chloe Leino + Liam Giblin

6th Class:           Emily Higgins + Seán Harrington

PE Equipment Inventory

Our first job was to tidy the PE Cupboard and do an inventory of the PE Equipment. It was a very busy and fun activity. The older children helped the younger children and we worked as a team to get the job done.

Cross Country running

Next up was Cross Country Running. We held a few weeks of training and preparation to help everyone get ready for the event. It was amazing to see how much progress everyone made and the fun we all had. It involved all classes from 3rd up to 6th. Both boys and girls were involved in the running and a teams were selected to go to Swinford to take part in the local area event.

A few of our teams made it through to the Mayo finals in Ballina.

Mini 7’s GAA Football

In October and November our school took part in the GAA Mini-7’s football competition. The boys and girls trained hard during the weeks leading up to the competition. Lots of fun was had by the children and we worked very well as a team.

Walk to The North Pole Challenge

During December the whole school took part in a Christmas Walking Challenge. We all worked with our class and attempted to walk/jog/run the distance it takes to get to the North Pole. Each lap of our playing area was equal to a Kilometre. We wore our Santa hats and had lots of fun getting loads of exercise.
