The Garden School Visit St.Attracta’s

On Friday last Ciarán and Hannah Burke of the garden school (www.thegardenschool.ie) visited First and Second classes where they presented workshops on planting, seeds and germination. The classes learned how to make pots out of recycled newspapers, filling it with organic peat free compost and sowing a seed.

Ciarán introduced his friend Doo Doo the Scoodoo who told the children about how a seed grows. It really was lots of fun and helped to bring an important message to the children about caring for the planet.

We really appreciate Ciarán and Hannah taking the time to visit and we look forward to seeing more Scoodoos in our school grounds in the coming weeks!

Michael McGrath visits 5th and 6th Class

Michael McGrath (Grandfather of our students Jake,Jessica and Roisín Casey) visited our school on Monday last. Michael’s visit coincided with the 50th anniversary of the death of John F.Kennedy in Dallas Texas. Michael told our captivated 5th and 6th class students of how as a young Army Cadet he took part in a special guard of honour at the graveside of the fallen leader in Arlington Cemetery Virginia, leaving all his audience enthralled with his memories.Michael gave our students a fantastic insight into life in Ireland and indeed the world at that time, giving a great context to the death of President Kennedy and his importance and relevance to Ireland.
We were delighted that Michael took the time to visit our school and thank him sincerely for sharing his wonderful story.
