School Teams Compete at Mayo Cumann na mBunscol Quarter Final Stage

FullSizeRender

We had a very busy start to our week earlier in Charlestown when our school teams both contested the Mayo Cumann na mBunscol County Quarter Finals.

First up our girls were pitted against an exceptional Meelick NS side who proved more than a match for everything that was sent in their direction. To their immense credit our girls never gave up, battling to the final whistle, giving their all.We really are delighted with the progress that they each have made throughout this year.

After a short break our boys took to the field against Bohola N.S. who as with Meelick proved to be very talented and competitive opponents.
It was a performance full of heart , determination and never say die attitude from the boys many of whom were playing for the school in this competition for the first time. Despite our defeat there was much to be proud of.

Our afternoon concluded with a challenge match against Bohola NS Girls team.

As alluded to we are so proud of our teams and players. Each gave their all, representing their school with great distinction! Maith sibh!

Finally best wishes to Meelick NS and Bohola NS who progress to the County Semi Final Stage on Wednesday next in the Connaught Centre of Excellence in Bekan.

The Western Spikeball Finals took place earlier in St.Brigid’s Vocational School Loughrea, Co.Galway. This year our girls team flew the flag for our school, representing us proudly against strong opposition.

The girls did so well in a difficult pool, particularly considering the age profile of our team with so many of our team members in fifth class. They have made great progress over the course of this season . As mentioned, many on this team will be available to us again next year and we really hope this great experience will stand to them. Comhghairdeachas mór to the our sixth class pupils who set a great example, always encouraging their younger teammates while playing very well.

A special word of thanks to the transition year students who have helped us over the past number of months. We really are so thankful for their interest and enthusiasm.

Finally a special mention to Geraldine Finn whose expertise, encouragement and efforts are always much appreciated. Geraldine always give so much to spikeball in our school and indeed our community. We thank her sincerely for this. Maith thú Geraldine!

Rang 3 Participate in Futsal Competition

On Tuesday 2nd December the girls from 3rd class took part in a Girls Futsal competition in Barnacaroll Sports Complex. The competition involved 3rd & 4th class children from schools in the surrounding areas battling against each other to progress to the county finals. Our girls performed admirably against teams from Bekan N.S., Barnacaroll N.S., Cloonlyon N.S. and Ballinrobe N.S. with most of the other teams made up entirely of 4th class children. They have made huge progress both individually and as a team. And this time next year they will be ready to show their true potential. It was a great day out and all the girls had great fun.

The following day on Wednesday 3rd the boys from 3rd also took part in a Boys Futsal competition. They were also up against 3rd & 4th class children from Bekan N.S., Barnacaroll N.S. and Gaelscoil De Burca progress to the county finals. The boys played excellently and enjoyed their day out. It was a great experience to play this exciting game and they learned some valuable lessons about team playing, passing, movement and never giving up.

We would like to thank Paul Byrne (FAI) for organising the excellent event and to wish the winning teams all the best in the upcoming finals. Finally a big thank you to all the parents who helped prepare the runners, boots, shin pads, football gear etc that all the children needed and also to all the parents who gave up their time to transport the children from Charlestown to Barnacaroll. As always we really appreciated your help.
