What an amazing afternoon we had in the Helix earlier when our students participated in the national finals of Fís Film 2015. As mentioned previously, we were absolutely thrilled to be shortlisted for our film ‘Back in the Springtime’ which documented the powerful story of Michael McGrath (Grandfather of Jake, Jessica, Roisín and Cian Casey) and his participation in the honour guard at the funeral of President John.F.Kennedy at Arlington Cemetery in November 1963.

Today was an occasion to say well done to all of the students from Rang 4/5 agus a Sé (It was also lovely to welcome back our past pupils Erica, Holly and Pawel who remain such a part of our school family)
who made the film such a success and the teachers who worked tirelessly in the background. We are incredibly proud of the children and the progress they made throughout the process. We are confident it was an occasion they are not likely to forget and a just reward for all their hard work.

Again a special word of thanks to Michael for his generosity, time and above all wonderful engagement with the children. We sincerely appreciate his enthusiasm and interest in our project. It was lovely to have Michael with us in The Helix and we sincerely hope he enjoyed working with the children.

Finally well done to all the schools who we shared this special day with. In particular, our friends and neighbours St.Patrick’s NS Cloonlyon who were shortlisted for their film ‘We Will Remember Them’ (The film tells the story of Patrick Tarpey who died of wounds sustained in battle in World War 1 on 10th June 1915). Again, huge congratulations to Mr.Collins and all the students on their fantastic work and also on winning their award earlier.

Thank you also to all who supported us at today’s ceremony in the Helix and also who viewed the stream online. We really appreciated the efforts you went to on our behalf and your encouragement and support!

To complete this special day we were overjoyed to receive an award for the Outstanding Achievement in Film Making for Costume for our film. We were thrilled to receive a lovely trophy and i-pad for our school!! This will come to great use!
