On Monday morning Maura Lyons Programme Manager of Leave No Trace Ireland visited 5th and 6th Class.
Leave No Trace is an Outdoor Ethics Education Programme and compliments the work we are doing for the Discovery Primary Science Exhibition early in the New Year.
Maura’s workshop examined the principles of leave no trace, focusing on ensuring when we visit places of beauty that we make it hard for others to see or hear us and ensuring that we leave no trace of our visit. It concluded with a detailed discussion of places of natural beauty in Ireland that we have visited and impacted positively on us and areas that have left less of an impact on us as visitors.
We used an interesting casestudy in Croagh Patrick and examined the impact of so many climbing this mountain and the results this is having.
We really enjoyed Maura’s visit and look forward to welcoming Leave No Trace back in the New Year to work with some of our younger students in our school grounds.
Finally a special word of thanks to John Carney from our Parent Association who organised this mornings event.
